The monastery mill Lahde (mill route no. 2), first mentioned as a water mill in 1292 in a document of the Marienkloster Lahde, is a special feature: It is a combined wind and water mill, one of very few in Germany. It has been owned by the Meyer family, now Laubmeyer, since 1871. In 1876-80, a Dutch windmill was added to the existing old watermill. The wooden water wheel was replaced in 1955 by a turbine to generate electricity. The milling operation of the windmill was discontinued in 1998 after more than 700 years of mill tradition. Today the outdoor area in front of the monastery mill is freely accessible. The windmill is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The owner family, who lives right next door, is also happy to open the water mill upon request and conduct guided tours for those who are interested. More information at: klostermuehle-lahde.de. The monastery mill Lahde is the last in a row of what used to be three water mills on the lower reaches of the Bückeburger Aue.

The Klostermühle Lahde is located a few meters downhill from the Evangelical Church Lahde (built in 1895 in neo-Gothic style) directly on the beautiful cycle path in the Lahder Masch nature reserve in the direction of Frille or Wietersheim. I must have cycled this path more than a hundred times and can only recommend it.
