Huge wind-sculpted rocks surround and protect this place of peace and tranquility, which has always been a destination for believers in search of intense spiritual experiences. The small church is surrounded by granite and Mediterranean maquis, a perfect example of Franciscan simplicity. Thanks to its position, it dominates a panoramic view of the Strait of Bonifacio. Its (almost) millennial history is wrapped in folk tales that are linked to the two protagonists from the origin of a mysterious and barren place. The hermitage of San Trano owes its name to the two hermit saints, Nicola and Trano, who lived between the 4th and 5th centuries and chose this residence far from comfort and vices to live their faith to the fullest.

The construction dates back to the 13th century, and a legend about the two brothers is inextricably linked to it. It is said that the bodies of the two saints were found in 1227 by two Franciscan friars, guided by the apparition of the Madonna, who, during a pilgrimage, showed them the place where Trano and Nicola had always lived, prompting them to build the church . The rock building rises around a granite cave where the two holy hermits found refuge. The cavity was integrated into the wall structure and took on the function of a natural apse, which "protected" the altar, which was made of a granite block that was also "shaped" by nature. The rest of the construction is also kept simple in the name of the Franciscan rule. The interior consists of a single nave with a few pews and granite slab flooring. The roof consists of a gabled roof with exposed wooden beams inside, thatched and protected by tiles. Behind the altar and under the ancient grotto you can admire the statues of Saints Nicola and Trano, celebrated in early June with an evening procession and a grand banquet the following day.
