The writer Max von der Grün, born in 1926, lived in Heeren-Werve from 1951 to 1966. He lived in the Lanstrop district of Dortmund until his death in 2005. From 1951 to 1963, von der Grün worked at the Königsborn 2/5 colliery, first as a hewer and then, after a serious accident at work, as an underground locomotive driver.
