              The Rosental was once densely forested - until the Saxon Elector at the beginning of the 18th century decided to clear the area and build a palace complex. The people of Leipzig didn't think that was great, because they were supposed to pay for construction and maintenance. So the monarch was informed that the ground was particularly wet here, the mosquitoes were particularly large and the robbers were particularly murderous. With success: the palace was never built, and the area was later transformed into an English park.
