Due to its size, the Grote Markt is the perfect place for large events. It is also equipped with a large parking lot. There are numerous cozy restaurants and cafés with beautiful terraces around the market. Both in the summer months you are covered and protected from the sun, and in the winter you can sit comfortably outside with wonderful heating elements. With the chimes in the background, you can enjoy this unique atmosphere and environment in the vibrant center at any time of the year.

In the center of Sint-Truiden is the Grote Markt, which nowadays serves as a location for major events and paid parking. In the past, it was sometimes claimed, especially by local politicians, that this square is the second largest market square in Belgium, after that of Sint-Niklaas. In November 2014, controversy arose after this fact was discussed in the television program Vlaanderen Vakantieland. After all, several other cities also appeared to claim that the second largest market square would be located on their territory. After research it became clear that neither Sint-Truiden nor the other cities could legitimately claim this title. The measurements showed that the second largest Grote Markt is located in Sint-Lievens-Houtem, and that Sint-Truiden only has the fifth largest market in Belgium.
