Allenstein Castle was built in the 14th century and served as the residence of the grand masters of the Teutonic Order. Today the castle houses a museum that presents a variety of exhibitions and exhibits on the history of the Teutonic Order and the city of Allenstein.

On the edge of the old town towers over the Alletal built in the 14th century and later expanded castle. Today it is the headquarters of Muzeum Warmii i Mazur (Museum of Warmia and Mazury). A large part of the exhibition is dedicated to the former lord of the castle and steward of the cathedral chapter, Nicolaus Copernicus.
