Neoclassical building designed by A. Van Arenbergh (1843). Part of the organ dates from the end of the seventeenth century. Saint Hilary or Hilary of Poitiers was a church father and the most important theologian of the fourth century in the West. The church of nearby Bierbeek is also named after him.

Around the church are several older gravestones, a war grave and a war monument, information boards about the battle of Boutersem where newly independent Belgium fought the Dutch (with the young Leopold) and an old water pump. The rear of the church grounds is accessible via a staircase (height difference). Parking available around the church and within walking distance of Vertrijk station.

The Sint-Hilariuskerk in Boutersem is located on the village square with a walled cemetery around the church. There is still an old village pump on the square, with next to it some information boards about historical battles that took place there.
