Lviv is a city in western Ukraine, around 70 km from the Polish border. Traces of their Polish and Austro-Hungarian past can be seen in the architecture, which combines Central and Eastern European as well as Italian and German styles. In the park of the stronghold on the mountain top are the ruins of a 14th-century castle and offer panoramic views of the city's churches with their green domes and the surrounding hills.
