If you don't know the background, you'll probably be a little disappointed with this stone. This is something very special:
Ogham stones (also Ogham pillars) are the stone, erect supports of the Ogham characters. They mostly come from the island of Ireland (around 480 pieces) and mostly from the counties Kerry (155) and Cork (125) in the south. Only six (including the Gartree Ogham Stone) come from Northern Ireland. There are five ogham stones in the West Kerry Museum in Ballyferriter.

The Ogham or (Old Irish) Ogam script was used in Ireland and some western parts of Britain and Scotland (Scottish Gaelic Oghum), mainly from the 5th to 7th centuries, to write short texts on the edges of Ogham stones or on other supporting materials. In most cases, personal names should be attached. The name of the script has strong etymological parallels with Ogma or Ogmios, the ancient Irish god of oratory. However, it has not yet been possible to clarify whether this god is the namesake of the writing or whether folk etymology made the reference afterwards.
