The Dr.-vom-Bruch Bridge in the East Frisian district town of Leer is a bascule bridge made of reinforced concrete.[1] The structure, built between 1926 and 1927, is around 100 meters long[1] and is a listed building.[2] It crosses the Leda River and connects Nessestraße on the Nesserland peninsula with Königsstraße in downtown Leer. The bridge is named after the mayor of Leer, Erich vom Bruch (October 29, 1885 in Solingen; † May 7, 1933 in Leer), during whose tenure (1920-1933) it was built. Bruch is an early victim of National Socialism. He committed suicide after the National Socialists in Leer wrongly accused him of irregularities in municipal finances and wanted to examine them in court.
