Fürstenstein Castle
Visible from afar, Fürstenstein Castle towers over the Dreiburgenland on a 578-meter-high rocky ridge. The princely-looking castle complex is also the namesake of the community and has accompanied its residents through the town's eventful history, which spans around a thousand years. It is still not known when the castle was built. The oldest known date in history is the destruction of the castle in 1332. It was subsequently rebuilt and was the seat of power for many noble families. The castle burned down in 1848 and was rebuilt in 1860 by the Bishop of Passau, Heinrich von Hofstätter. Until 2001, the Order of the Maria Ward Sisters ran a private elementary school there. The castle has been privately owned since May 2007.
Only external viewing is possible.
However, a virtual tour of the castle is possible at any time.
