Built during the so-called "Third Reich," the complex, known as the "Ordensburg Vogelsang," was intended to serve as a training ground for the future leaders of the Nazi regime. Today, it stands in the heart of the Eifel National Park, and separate sections of the massive building complex now house both the "Bebestimmung Herrenmensch" (Destiny: Master Race) exhibition and the National Park Information Center, with a magnificent "Erlebnis(t)räume" (Dreams of Experience) exhibition on the flora and fauna of North Rhine-Westphalia's only national park.
This sculpture of a man mounted on horseback, located on one of the buildings, alone conveys an impression of the architectural structure of this "Ordensburg," which was planned and realized during the Nazi era.
