Beavers build a castle, which is up to 2 meters high, while the diameter can be as much as 10 meters. The entrance is under water, making them inaccessible to predators. The castle, consisting of a hollow pile of branches, is located further above water. It has a 'wet room', where the beaver shakes the water from its fur, and a dry nesting chamber, lined with wood chips. The nesting chamber is approximately 20 cm above the water level and has an air hole. In the summer, a lair is also often used for resting: a shallow hollow on the bank under bushes or other dense vegetation with flattened vegetation or wood chips.
