Wangermeer is an approximately 100 hectare recreational lake on the northern outskirts of Hohenkirchen (municipality of Wangerland). In the lake there is a 14 hectare round island. A 325 m long wooden bridge for pedestrians and cyclists was built to connect the round island and the NLG building area to Hohenkirchen. Platforms and places to stay invite you to linger on the bridge and turn the structure into a promenade bridge that is suitable for tourist use.

The Wangermeer is only a stone's throw away from the salty North Sea coast. On the northern outskirts of Hohenkirchen, the approximately 100-hectare freshwater lake stretches inland and invites you to explore. Rare bird species have settled on the Wangermeer and fish have also found their habitat here. Hiking routes of almost 5 kilometers along multifaceted nature invite you to experience them here. If you get hungry, you can take a break in the "Sturmbude" with a café, snack bar and a large sun terrace or enjoy the picnic you have brought with you on one of the beautiful viewing platforms and watch the hustle and bustle on the Wangermeer.
