Nestled in the dunes along section of beach are nineteen small shacks that artists and writers apply to live in. These coveted artist residencies are open to all members of the community and are an important part of Provincetown culture. The isolated, historic shacks have no electricity or indoor plumbing and allow for artists to be inspired by the solitude and beauty of the Cape Cod seashore. The loosely defined Dune Shack trail system takes you past many of these small shacks and feel free to take photos, but please do not enter them or get too, too close and disturb the artists who might be working inside. As with any beach travel in this area, try to stick to established paths through the dunes to prevent erosion.
