Mother temple of all Balinese temples. One of 9 main temples on the whole island. Especially magical on the first full moon in April, when all the Balinese come to the temple and commemorate their ancestors with offerings and prayers.

Visitors pay an entrance fee of 150,000 IDR and are then led through the temple complex by a guide. Visitors are not allowed to enter the individual temples of Besakih. Incidentally, we have the disrespectful influencers to thank for the ban introduced a few years ago. Above the temple complex, our guide took us to Pura Gelap Besakih, invited us to pray and asked us to make a donation to the priest. We were lucky that our guide was very polite and never pushy. He explained everything to us very well.
Overall, a huge business is being made out of this most important and oldest temple in Bali. For the Balinese, who are allowed to enter their temples, it is still a very important and spiritual place that everyone visits regularly.
