St. Mark's Chapel was first mentioned in 1216. It was built in honor of Saints Mary, Lawrence, and Nicholas. The chapel has been documented as a place of pilgrimage since 1297. St. Mark's Chapel was so badly damaged during the Peasants' War around 1525 that it subsequently fell into disrepair. The miraculous image, a Madonna and Child from around 1480, now adorns the side altar of Faulbach Parish Church. Locally, pilgrims in the Spessart region still make pilgrimages to the "Faulbach Madonna" in May.

The chapel ruins are located at the Fechermühle, at the entrance to the Mühlental, on the right side of the Haslochbach. To the west, in the Kropfbachtal, lies the Grünau Charterhouse.

A highlight of my tour that I'd like to recommend to you is the ruins of St. Mark's Chapel. This ancient, historic site on the Haslochbach stream has a very special atmosphere. I found it truly impressive and a great place for a short break and—as I did—some nice photos! The ruins are conveniently located on many of the paths that lead to Nickelsmühle.
