A real gem and a place of rest (especially in strong winds) and reflection. The sand / shell bottom is particularly beautiful - simply natural and "easy to keep clean".

The former church of Hooge, which fell victim to a storm surge in 1362, probably stood between Hooge and Norderoog, because in 1965 the remains of an old cemetery were found here in the mudflats. Hooge no longer had its own church and the residents had to walk to Pellworm to the old church there; this church still exists today as a ruin and is clearly visible from Landsende. However, another storm surge in 1634 created a deep ditch that could no longer be crossed on foot.
So it became necessary to build a separate church on Hooge again, which was then built in its current location from 1637 onwards over a construction period of around 5 years. The building material for this came from a church called Osterwohld, which was also sunk and was located between Hooge and Nordstrand. Both the bricks and the many preserved remains of the church inventory were used, so that a visit to the interior of the building takes you back to times long past.

The 17th-century Hallig church—consecrated in 1637—with its freestanding bell tower also contains a work of art by the Flensburg master Heinrich Ringelink. Many objects recall the Hallig islands' history of frequent storm surges.

The church's history was also heavily influenced by these storm surges. The church is surrounded by the cemetery, which also contains a simple wooden cross, the "Home for the Homeless." Unidentified bodies washed ashore were buried in this area.

In front of the cemetery lies the sarcophagus of a wealthy citizen from the early Middle Ages. It was uncovered during one of the devastating storm surges of the past.
