Interesting story surrounding this monument.
A monument was erected here as early as 1879
Dismantled in 1967 and taken to the dump.
In 1967 it was recovered and restored again, and then again in 1968
to build a Protestant cemetery.
In 1980 it was dismantled again.
In 1998 it was buried on company premises.
A replica was 3D printed in 2021 and can be seen here today.

Daniel Puckert created the 3D-printed replica of Hamminkeln's Germania from 30 kg of recycled plastic. He, the Kloppert family, Ilse Schmidt, Waltraud Fenske, and the HVV (public transport association) with Heinz Breuer, want to commemorate Hamminkeln's village history with this project.

As I gather from the poem, the population doesn't always agree with the council's decisions and wants to be consulted on such decisions. When the city fathers were planning how Hamminkeln should become more modern and beautiful in 1967, they felt the Germania didn't fit into the new townscape, so they threw it in the trash. But a large portion of the population disagreed and invited people to a public meeting at Schmidt's hall. After a few beers, the Germania was promptly retrieved from the trash and placed in front of the mayor's house. But in 1980, by council decision, it was dismantled and disappeared for an unknown period. Now it's back as a 3D print... Sounds like a Schildbürger prank. :)
