"The company Erfurt & Sohn KG is a paper factory that has specialized in the production of paintable wall coverings. The company premises are located in the Wupper valley in the east of the city of Wuppertal in the district of Langerfeld-Beyenburg and in the south of the city of Schwelm on both sides of the river that forms the border between the two cities.

In 1827, the company founder Friedrich Erfurt received the concession to build a paper mill. He founded a paper mill in the Wupper valley, using the river's water to power the mill and bleach the paper products. His grandson, the trained pharmacist Hugo Erfurt, inherited the factory from his father Heinrich Erfurt. In 1864 he developed a "paper for shop window design" and a "base paper for surface-printed wallpaper", which was later distributed worldwide as woodchip. Under the management of Wilhelm Erfurt, who managed the company in the sixth generation until 1998, the company developed into one of the best-known wallpaper brands in Germany. ..."
