Haus Raeren is roughly built, austere and small. It is undoubtedly one of the most special examples of fortified castles in the then Duchy of Limbourg. Despite the changes made to the roof and window recesses, Haus Raeren has retained all the characteristics of a moated castle.

The fortified residential tower surrounded by a moat was built in the 14th century. Only a few changes have been made over the centuries, only larger windows were installed and a different roof was added, which covers an old battlement. The old moat fed by the Itter and the farm yard are still there.
The first known owner was a Carsilius von der Roetschen around 1400, whose daughter married Emmerich von Bastenach (Emeric de Bastogne, whose family held the mayorship of the city of Bastogne). In 1443 the property passed to the son of the same name from this marriage. After various changes of ownership, Haus Raeren remained in the possession of the von Schwartzenberg family in the 16th and 17th centuries.
In 1859, Leonard Jardon, husband of Cornelia de Nys, daughter of the then owner of the neighboring Raeren Castle and sister of Karl de Nys, became the owner of the property. After a forced sale, Haus Raeren came into the possession of the Aachen hotelier Gerhard Nöcken in 1913. In 1917, the Raeren main teacher Jean Blank, father of the painter André Blank, whose family still owns the property, bought it. Source: Wikipedia
