Dedicated to the work and life of the Belgian draftsman and illustrator Hergé (pseudonym of Georges Prosper Remi). Hergé must be probably the most famous Belgian cartoonist, and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He is the spiritual father of Tintin and Snowy, Quick and Flupke, ...
The building itself also deserves a mention. Architect Christian de Portzamparc translated Hergé's well-known drawing style into light forms and great clarity in the walls, windows, vistas and walkways.

The museum permanently displays some three hundred original objects by Hergé and many photographs. These change every three months for storage reasons. To this end, a reserve of 800 original sketches and drawings is used. The arrangement sometimes looks didactic when it is shown how Hergé's drawings came about and evolved. It is also shown how Hergé was the first to use merchandising. He marketed spatial replicas of his cartoon characters. Two important periods in Hergé's life, however, remain unexamined: the war years (WWII) with his engagement with the newspaper Le Soir and the divorce from his first wife Germaine Kieckens.
