The Nagoonberry Loop Trail includes a short spur that leads to a sandy beach on the shores of Icy Passage.
However, this isn't the type of beach you'd find in a tropical destination. It's better-suited to a stroll than sunning yourself, and beware the glacier-silt-laden mudflats that may be exposed by a low tide. Although they appear firm when the water table is low, they essentially turn to quicksand as the quick-moving tide rushes back in and the water level rises.
Keep an eye out for tiny, flavor-packed wild strawberries, which often grow profusely on the flats around Gustavus.
