The Goldene Aue experienced an unexpected boom in these years thanks to the Kyffhäuser Kleinbahn: agriculture, forestry and the quarries on the Kyffhäuser benefited from the Kleinbahn, as did the coal mines at Udersleben, Ichstedt and Borxleben. Tourism also used the small train, since z. B. Kyffhäuser Monument and Rothenburg were more easily accessible.
On March 15, 1967, the GDR Transport Minister gave the order to shut down the line and dismantle the facilities. The stations along the route were handed over to other dispositions.
