In this area there are two large military training areas for the troops of the Soviet Army stationed in the former GDR: this one east of Trampe and the popularly known "Panzerbahn" between Eberswalde-Ostend and Sommerfelde. The TÜP "Trampe" is about 5 km southwest of Eberswaldehat and has an area of about 800 ha. It is located in the Barnimplatte natural area and is part of the Barnim Nature Park, of which about 431 ha of the area has now been designated as the "Trampe" FFH area .

The former TÜP of the CIS armed forces forms a diverse transition zone between the extensively forested Barnimer Heide and the sparsely forested agricultural landscape south of Trampe.

Due to the fact that it was used as a military training area after 1945 and the resulting lack of intensification of both the open land and the forest areas, this area has a very high structural diversity and very little eutrophication. There are large, meager grassland areas with a very high abundance of flowers, many embedded small to medium-sized wetlands and structurally rich transitions from sandy dry grassland / heaths to pine high forest areas.
