Braunwald funicular from 1907
The Braunwaldbahn connects the SBB Linthal Braunwaldbahn station at 674 m above sea level with the high altitude health resort of Braunwald at 1254 m above sea level. Braunwald is one of the car-free places in Switzerland that can only be easily reached by train.
The railway was built for tourism and was entirely privately financed. The Rüti-Braunwald cable car had been in place since 1902 to transport goods to Braunwald.
The Braunwaldbahn has been the most important feeder since 1907. The funicular is primarily intended for passenger transport, but can also transport small goods.

Braunwaldbahn from 1907
The Braunwald funicular is the only connection to Braunwald. The funicular overcomes 600 meters in altitude in 7 minutes and takes you to the car-free sun terrace of Braunwald. The Linthal valley station can be easily reached by car or public transport (Linthal-Braunwaldbahn train station).
