The oldest part of today's Doge's Palace faces the water. The palace is one of the most important secular Gothic buildings and a masterpiece of Venetian architecture. The self-representation and propaganda of the Republic of Venice is also reflected in the interior decoration with stucco, gilded carvings, history paintings and allegories, to which the great painters of Venice contributed.

The Doge's Palace (Italian: Palazzo Ducale, Venetian: Pałaso Dogal) in Venice was the seat of the Doge and the governmental and judicial bodies of the Republic of Venice from the 9th century onwards. The palace was the governmental and administrative center of the Republic and, at the same time, a symbol of the greatness and power of the Maritime Republic of Venice. It is (also) a must-see for any visit to Venice. However, a tour (inside) is also worthwhile; it is absolutely worth seeing.
