Rockets used to stand here – today the former NATO base houses art.

The art and exhibition house, opened in 2004 on the old rocket station, was designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando. It is his second building in Germany and his fourth in Europe. The building is made of steel, glass and concrete and is known for its play of light and shadow. The museum has around 1,400 square meters of exhibition space and shows various temporary exhibitions. But the outdoor area is also interesting and worth seeing and a cool highlight on every bike tour.

The former rocket station is now a museum site near Holzheim. From 1962 to 1988 NATO missiles were kept ready here.

The museum buildings are currently (July 2020) closed, but the outdoor area is also very interesting and worth seeing. Benches invite you to take a break.

Nike missiles were kept ready at the NATO missile station. In front of the facility there were demonstrations and sit-ins by supporters of the peace movement in the 1980s, including in January 1984. The missiles were dismantled and removed under the INF Treaty in 1988, and the base was closed in 1990.

Karl-Heinrich Müller acquired the area in 1994 and had the existing buildings converted. The designs for the further design of the rocket station (buildings and sculptures) were presented in 1996 at the 6th Architecture Biennale in Venice. A large number of artists, poets, composers and scientists work on the site today.

Since September 2004, the art and exhibition house of the Langen Foundation, designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, can be visited on the site of the rocket station.

In the area, the foundation is planning a use with buildings and nature, the project "Space Location Laboratory". The historic strategic railway embankment touches the museum grounds.

After the death of Karl-Heinrich Müller in 2007, the completion of various buildings on the foundation's premises was uncertain. The "House for Musicians" designed by the architect Raimund Abraham was completed in 2014.[1] It has four practice rooms spanning two floors, large common areas, a studio room, four apartments and a library. The inner courtyard and the underground arena can also be used.
