Lucky Luke celebrated his 70th birthday in 2016 and that was also celebrated appropriately in Middelkerke, the comic strip municipality of the coast. Thanks to the excellent collaboration with publisher Ballon Media, we succeeded in having a beautiful drawing of Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper painted on a facade of the De Branding centre. The artists of Art Mural vzw took care of the practical realisation.
The drawing on the facade of the De Branding centre was drawn by spiritual father Morris and originally appeared on the cover of the comic strip magazine Spirou (Robbedoes), which was published on 4 January 1968. This also immediately explains why Lucky Luke is still smoking in the drawing. It was not until 1983 that Lucky Luke stopped smoking and Morris replaced the cigarette with a straw. However, the drawing on the wall of De Branding is a correct copy in all its details of the cover of Spirou from 1968, so also with a cigarette. Morris died in 2001.
