Agios Nikolaos
Within the present town and above the new port is the small church of Agios Nikolaos of Thalassinos or Agios Nikolaos in Kotronia (due to the rocky terrain of the area). We cannot date the construction of the church as no inscription or text has been found. Nevertheless, the icon of Saint Nicholas, which was part of the iconostasis of the church and is now in the Metropolitan Church of the Three Hierarchs, dates from 1807, so we can conclude that the church existed before the 19th century. Vespers are celebrated on the evening of May 19th and the Divine Liturgy in the morning. The magnificent courtyard of the church offers a stop from which to enjoy a panoramic view of Skiathos port. There is also a clock – a trademark, one of the first things the visitor sees when arriving at the port.

The Kastro in the north of the island was the island's capital between 1360 and 1829. Fearing pirate attacks, the city was expanded into a fortress. The walls encircled approximately 300 houses and 22 churches. Once accessible only by a drawbridge, today the entrance is accessed via a staircase.
