Church of St. Peter of Alcantara in Karviná (cz. Kostel sv. Petra z Alkantara) - a Roman Catholic historic church in Karviná, in the Doły district, in the Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic (in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia).
It is the parish church of the parish of St. Peter in Karwina-Doły.
The church was built by the Larischs in 1736 in the Baroque style, on the site of the wooden church of St. st. Martin (mentioned in 1447). In 1756, it was consecrated by the bishop of Wrocław, Filip Gothard Schaffgotsch. Inside, there is a Gothic stone baptismal font from the 15th century.
Since 1854, intensive mining operations (27 seams with a total thickness of 46.82 m) led to the building's inclination of 6.8° from the vertical to the south and the lowering of the surrounding area by almost 34 meters. In the 1990s, the building was in danger of collapsing. It was not until 1994–1995 that a general renovation was carried out and the building was secured against destruction.
The oldest inhabitants of this area say that the church stood on a hill, from which they used toboggan rides in the direction of the cemetery as children. Today the cemetery is higher than the church.
The inhabitants of the destroyed Karviná gradually moved during the years of socialism to the newly built town around the old village of Fryštát, and this is how the new town of Karviná was born.
The lonely and leaning church of St. Peter of Alcantara, contrary to fate, still stands near the main road leading to Ostrava and, like an old man bent over the grave of his hometown, sadly awaits the unknown future.
