Jackson Lake Island in Alabama served as the backdrop for Tim Burton's film Big Fish (2003) and remains the setting for an almost fairytale-like film set: the fictional village of Spectre. Although uninhabited, the village still stands, with deliberately dilapidated facades and weathered wooden houses. Several scenes, including those with Steve Buscemi as poet Norther Winslow, were filmed here. Today, the island attracts visitors – amidst dilapidated film sets, grazing goats, and a mossy lakeshore.
