Archaeological excavations show that this place was already inhabited in the Bronze Age. In pre-Roman times it was populated by the Asturian people, becoming Romanized throughout the 1st century AD, the time when it reached its peak. The city of Lancia was abandoned at the end of the 4th century or the beginning of the 5th century. The remains of the public buildings found such as the market or the baths stand out. Its historical importance as a forerunner of the current city of León is unquestionable.
