Vignolo still retains a medieval-style urban structure in which several buildings emerge that bear the signs of the centuries-old history of the small piedmont village. Within this context there are many frescoes, of religious origin, which decorate the facades and walls of the houses in the concentric area, narrating with their images stories and traditions of a time that has now passed.
Among them, the most valuable one is certainly the so-called portal of San Maurizio which owes its dedication to the depiction of the holy martyr frescoed on the driveway of one of the oldest rural centers of the town located on via Nittardi. Created between the last quarter of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th, the fresco incorporates a pointed arch window, enhancing its elegant profile and depicts the two powers in force at the time in which it was created: the Church personified by the Virgin and the house of Savoy represented by its patron saint, the knight and martyr Saint Maurice.
