A hydroelectric power station is located in the weir. From Müsleringen to Schlüsselburg, a lock canal that runs approximately 3.5 kilometers parallel and west of the Weser shortens the “Weser Waterway”. In the lock in Schlüsselburg, lowering and raising the water level overcomes the difference in height of the water that has been dammed up in front of the weir. The lock channel flows back to the Weser between Schloßburg and Stolzenau. The often monotonous view of the canal turns out to be more diverse under water than it seems. The same fish species can be found in the lock channel as in the Weser. The following fish are caught there:

Eel, aland, brown trout, perch, bream, chub, gudgeon, güster, hazel, pike, carp, chewable bass, asp, rainbow trout, roach, rudd, tench, catfish, tart and pikeperch.
