The water tower was built in 1898. The pressure of its water column provided running water to the surrounding households.

The water tower is now a listed building; it was decommissioned in the 1980s. In 2002, the individual monument was privatized

and converted into residential use in 2005.
From the foot of the water tower, it's worth taking a look back at Mauerstraße.

This section of Mauerstraße was formerly called "Hirtengasse" (Hirtengasse) because it was primarily inhabited by shepherds. A look in the other direction reveals a large vacant lot.
This is where the small houses of the yarn and wool weavers once stood.

This is why the square diagonally in front of the water tower was also called "Nobbe" (Nobbe).

A Nobbe is a twisted thread in the fabric.

In 1901, Gebhard Eckler (1861-1942) laid the foundation stone
for today's local history museum with his private collection. Because of his outstanding contributions to Nauen's local history, Hintergasse was renamed "Gebhard-Eckler-Straße" in 1931.
