Ferry Großenwieden
The Weser ferry Großenwieden connects the Hess. Oldendorf districts Großenwieden and Rumbeck together.
The northernmost high-wire ferry on the Weser is a yaw ferry with a Schottelnavigator as a driving aid. "Yawing" exploits the kinetic energy of the flowing water to achieve the movements of a floating object perpendicular to the flow direction. By taking advantage of the river flow, the yaw ferry has a much lower energy consumption compared to the motor ferry without a significant extension of the crossing times.
The ferry is 24 meters long and 5 meters wide and can carry 4 passenger cars with inmates or 45 people. Their load capacity ranges from 11.40 t at high tide to 8 t at low tide. The loading area is 80 square meters.
Today's ferry is not only a tourist attraction, for cyclists who ride the cycle path Weser, but brings then and now the farmers to their fields on the other side of the Weser.
