This is Lanzarote's smallest fortification. It stands on a promontory in the south of the island and was used to defend against pirates. It was built between 1741 and 1744 and consists of a two-storey, massive round tower with a high entrance and a bell tower-like top.

Faced with the continuous raids of Barbary, English and French pirates who had devastated the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura since the 16th century, Governor Andrés Bonito Pignatelli promoted the construction of defensive towers. In 1741 it was decided to place one on Punta del Águila, a promontory that reaches a height of about 15 m above the average level of the sea. This tower was already built in 1742. In 1749, the tower was burned down by some Algerian pirates who came to plunder Femés. The Tower is currently closed to the public, but the Yaiza City Council, owner since 1970, has plans for this property, in particular to open the Museum of History and Navigation.
