Tollaan The name "Vreelandsche Tollaan", which can still be found on old maps, shows that tolls were levied at the time to cover the costs of construction and maintenance as much as possible. The presence of toll collectors' houses also points to this. The "Vreelandsche Laan" was built in the early nineteenth century to replace the footpaths that meandered through the inner dikes of the polders between Vecht and Angstel and which were not accessible to vehicles.
