On this route you walk right through the largest Rietveld in Flanders.
This plain was almost completely buried under meters of sand during the port expansion.
Fortunately, due to a shortage of sand for further reclamation, nature was able to develop undisturbed at this location into the largest continuous reed bed in Flanders. Now this nature reserve "Groot Rietveld" is an oasis of peace. An attraction for water birds and bird watchers. Don't forget your binoculars and come see for yourself.
