The Moignelée valley extends on the left bank of the Sambre valley, upstream from Tamines. It is dominated to the north by a steep and entirely wooded slope, while the south bank, flat, is maintained for the practice of angling. Vegetation is relatively well developed, including broad-leaved cattail and water-grass fringes, interrupted by a few large willows and alders.
The fauna includes various typical species such as the kingfisher, the little grebe, the reed beetle as well as many dragonflies.
The valley is bordered to the south by a vast abandoned hay meadow which separates it from the nearby Sambre.
