At the top of the summit the asphalt for about 5-7km is quite new, in very good condition and very smooth. The further you go down the mountain (i.e. towards the north), the more damage there is. Overall, it's very easy to drive, also because there is very little traffic and you can use the entire road.
The further north you go, the closer you get to the epicenter of the earthquake of September 2023. The road is already fully passable again and is still under construction (it's over 70km through the High Atlas, so it's going to be quite a long one take a while). I drove the route in January 2024 with 25 tires (sometimes with 28mm only on the rear) without any problems. You can't be so squeamish and the rims could get a scratch. Is just the way. It is an incredibly great and worth seeing route through the High Atlas. If you're just looking for a route to drive quickly, this is (still) the wrong place.
