The Lazarus gate dates from 1609. It was the entrance gate of a shelter for lepers founded in 1579 in a women's monastery elsewhere in the city. From 1853 to 1940, a gas factory was located in the monastery, which was partly demolished. The gate was retained and placed in 1965 as a gateway to the garden and terrace of the Museum Café. The name of the gate refers to the patron saint of Lepers.
