Monument to Nicolaus Copernicus in Frombork - a monument located at the foot of the Cathedral Hill in Frombork, depicting Nicolaus Copernicus, erected in 1973, on the 500th anniversary of the birth of the great astronomer.
The Copernicus Monument is made of bronze, is 6 meters high and stands on a three-meter-high granite plinth. It was made by the sculptor Mieczysław Welter, who is, among others, the creator of the Fryderyk Chopin monument in Słupsk and the Maria Konopnicka monument in Września. Welter was accused of the Copernicus monument being irregular and resembling "a block with a small head on it." The defenders saw the monument as a reference to Warmian saints and Prussian women.

Nikolaus Kopernikus (born February 19, 1473 in Thorn, † May 24, 1543 in Frauenburg; actually Niklas Koppernigk, Latinized Nicolaus Cop [p] ernicus, Polonized Mikołaj Kopernik) was a canon of the Duchy of Warmia in Prussia as well as an astronomer and doctor who himself also dedicated to mathematics and cartography.
In his main work De revolutionibus orbium coelestium he describes a heliocentric view of the world, according to which the earth is a planet, rotates around its own axis and also moves around the sun like the other planets. (Wikipedia)
