Speightstown, Barbados' second-largest city, has a little more character than the surrounding communities and is a bustling hub of the west coast. It was once a thriving trading port. The streets are lined with colonial-era architecture, the marina is teeming with yachts, and the long, white-sand beaches are dotted with food stalls and sunbathers. Street vendors sell fruit and vegetables, fishermen mend their nets and unload their catch, and visitors stroll the esplanade.
