The site of the Cascine di Tavola is a monumental and landscape complex of historical importance and a protected natural area of local interest located in Prato in the locality of Tavola. Until the 1920s, in past centuries it took the name of "Cascine del Poggio a Caiano" and was part of the agricultural estate attached to the Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano; in particular it was the portion located in the plain to the left of the Ombrone river, right in front of the hill from which the villa built by Lorenzo the Magnificent on the right bank dominates.

Farm commissioned by Lorenzo de Medici in 1477; in addition to the agricultural activities, important reclamation works were activated and a refined hydraulic system was created which used the water of the Bisenzio to feed the mills and fulling mills located in the plain before reaching the Tenuta delle Cascine.
