The name actually gives it away, but in the Beukenburg nature reserve you will find not only agricultural land, but also avenues with beautiful beech trees. What makes the area extra special is the presence of the badger! The nature reserve is located exactly where wet and dry land meet, and that is precisely the ideal living conditions for this animal.

Beukenburg and De Leyen consist of agricultural land and forest. You walk past old coppice plots and through a park forest with monumental beech avenues. The old beeches are inhabited by the bat, pine marten, owl and short-toed treecreeper. In the mixed forest we find many red forest ants. This is where the green woodpecker came to. The presence of the badger in this environment is special.

Beukenburg Estate is an estate north of the Groenekanseweg on the east side of Groenekan. It is located on the border of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug with the peat meadow area. The forest areas of De Leyen and the Ridderoordse Bossen in Bilthoven border the estate.
