This beautiful sandstone sculpture of a bridge saint can be found on the Gersprenz Bridge.
Johannes Nepomuk, the saint from the Czech Republic, greets us on the Gersprenz Bridge when we drive into our Stockstadt. As a priest in the 14th century, St. John Nepomuk was a strong representative of the church in relation to the worldly powers. This was his undoing and he died in the torrential Vltava river. The fact that his body was found, i.e. released from the water, made him a "bridge saint".
During his lifetime, he convincingly contrasted his faith with the worldly charms and temptations that, in their intensity, unconsciously take hold of us. Persistent on
looking at us as we pass him on the bridge, he is the one who can remind us of the religious values in this season of Advent
