Fast-paced rides on the Altenberg luge and bobsleigh track, which is one of the most challenging artificial ice tracks in the world. It is an attraction for athletes and visitors to the holiday region all year round.
The sledge and bobsleigh track in the Kohlgrund is well-known far beyond the borders of the Altenberg holiday region.
The SachsenEnergie ice track (racing sled and bobsleigh track) is 1,413 meters long and has 18 steep curves. This makes the ice track one of the most demanding and fastest tracks in the world. 13 World Championships have taken place since 1991 - most recently the Bob & Skeleton World Championships 2021. The next highlight will be the Luge World Championships from January 22-28, 2024.
On the track in Kohlgrund near Oberbärenburg, runners from Saxony train, e.g. B. Olympic champion and world champion in bobsleigh, Francesco Friedrich from SC Oberbärenburg. Other well-known athletes from bobsleigh, luge and skeleton also use the track to get in top shape for championships. It is the annual venue for many national and international competitions, such as B. German Championships, World Cups as well as European and World Championships.
As a federal base for bobsleigh, toboggan and skeleton, the sports facility is funded by the Federal Republic of Germany (BMI) and the Free State of Saxony (SMI). The owner of the facility is the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains.
