    What everyone knows as the Roman road, with the Descalzo bridges and the Enmedio bridge, is not a Roman road. It is a path built by Felipe V at the beginning of the 18th century. The true Roman road is the Camino Viejo de Segovia, the proof is that 100 meters from Puerto de La Fuenfría on the Madrid side, the Bourbon road passes over it.

        Luarca, I don't know if you're entirely right about what you say. Obviously, the Descalzo and Enmedio areas are in very good condition. There are other areas very close to them, where the manner and style of a Roman road is much more clearly visible (in my opinion). On the Segovia side, this is much more clearly visible. And that's despite the fact that both the road and Casa Eraso were used at the beginning of the last century, people from La Granja used to come up with carts to get off these constructions, more or less carved stones, for their own buildings. The Camino Viejo del Paular, which passes through Cotos, is also known as the "Camino Viejo de Segovia." Are there two "Caminos..." with the same name on both sides?

          The Old Road of Segovia is the one that climbs to the La Fuenfría Pass from the Los Forestales area. The one that descends from Cotos is known as the Old Road of Paular, as it appears on the IGN maps, the Army Geographic Service, and in the 1870-1941 Planimetries.

            Good afternoon, Francisco Avial. To learn more about the layout of the Roman road, I recommend Isaac Moreno Gallo; he has a YouTube channel. There's also a very useful website, "viasromanas.net," where you can see the main Roman roads identified in Castile and León by Isaac Moreno Gallo. It's also useful for planning excursions, as it features various maps of Spain, as well as aerial photographs from the 1956 American Flight to more recent ones. Best regards.

              The Fuenfría Roman Road is a historic cobbled path in the Sierra de Guadarrama, near Cercedilla (Madrid). It was part of a larger Roman road linking Segovia with Titulcia (near Aranjuez) during the time of Emperor Vespasian (1st century AD).

              Although its original layout is Roman, the road has been extensively modified and rebuilt over the centuries, especially in the 18th century by Philip V to facilitate access to the Palace of La Granja. For this reason, the most recent, cobbled sections are often referred to as the "Bourbon Road."

              Today, it is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Fuenfría Valley, passing through beautiful pine forests and ascending towards the Fuenfría Pass. It has been declared a National Historic, Artistic, and Archaeological Site and can be started from the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park Visitor Center in Cercedilla.
